How to start an online match
One player creates the game: pick a board size and press "Create a game". The page gives you an invite link and a QR code. The link is easy to share in any messenger, and the QR code works great when your friend is nearby — they point their camera at the screen and land straight in the match. As soon as the second player opens the link, the game begins automatically: no accounts, no lobbies, no waiting rooms.
From there it's classic tic tac toe: you take turns, each of you sees the board on your own device, and your opponent's move appears instantly. X always moves first. To keep a series fair, X and O swap between players every round — whoever played O last round moves first in the next one.
Rematches and the series score
When a game ends, both players see a Rematch button. Once you both press it, a new round starts in the same room, and the series score — each player's wins and the draws — is kept and shown above the board. One link is enough for a whole match, say first to three or first to five, without creating new rooms.
A room stays open for two hours after the last activity. If your break runs longer, the link expires — just create a new game and send a fresh invite.
How online play differs from one-device play
There are two ways to play with a friend on this site. The two-player mode is built for one screen: you pass a phone or tablet back and forth. Online mode is for when your opponent isn't next to you: each player opens the match on their own device, wherever they are. The rules and board sizes are identical — classic 3×3 with three in a row, and bigger boards from 4×4 to 7×7 where you need four in a row to win.
If you want to warm up before challenging a friend, try the vs computer mode or read the strategy guide — it explains why the centre beats the corners and how to build double threats.
Frequently asked questions
How do I invite a friend?
Create a game and share the invite link any way you like — messenger, email — or let them scan the QR code from your screen.
Do we need to sign up?
No. Both players play without accounts, right in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
Can we play several games in a row?
Yes — after every game there's a rematch in the same room. The series score is kept, and X and O swap every round.
What if a third person opens the link?
A room holds exactly two players: the third person sees a message that the seats are taken and can create their own game.
How long does the link work?
Two hours after the last activity in the room. After that the game closes and you create a new one.
